Shop Spotlight: Ascent Fly Fishing

Soon, you’ll be able to shop Colter gear in person in the state of Colorado! Ascent Fly Fishing will be carrying our Thorofare Net. Here’s a quick profile on one of our new favorite fly shops.

You know you’ve found a good local fly shop when, shortly after entering the premises, you find yourself with a cold beverage in hand and highly engaged in a conversation about bugs. Such was the case a few weeks ago when our Colter Backcountry crew stopped at Ascent Fly Fishing in Littleton, Colorado. In business since 2013, Ascent has been a go-to resource for fly anglers across the front range.

Ascent trades regularly in the secret sauce that fly anglers the world over can’t get enough of: local knowledge. Owner Peter Stitcher worked as an aquatic biologist before starting the business, and his outfit is renowned for its expertise on subsurface life in the state of Colorado. If you’re looking for a fly to get the job done at your favorite spot, they’ll have the perfect recommendation. These guys strive to help the local fly community and source their thousands of flies from their own tying factory in Kenya.

While their signature specialty might be flies, Ascent is no stranger to the backcountry. They carry the goods (and GPS pins!) to get anglers on fish throughout the vast Rocky Mountain wilderness. We’ve excited to see our Thorofare net sold alongside their collection of fly gear.

At Colter Backcountry, we believe that local fly shops are at the heart of our industry. From conservation to teaching, local shops are intimately involved in making our watersheds and communities strong. Plus, they’re a hell of a good place to drink a beer and shoot the shit. We’re stoked to partner with a shop in Colorado, and hope you shop at your local spot, wherever you may be.
